Project One

Project One: Day One

Friday, September 22

Hey there, fellow crochet enthusiasts! 🧶 Ever find yourself starting a project, only to unravel it multiple times? My one-year-old daughter is my little project helper (or yarn saboteur, haha). She turned one of my redo attempts into a tangled mess! I wonder if I'm the only one facing this challenge.

Now, let's press play day one of what I *hope* will be a three-day project. I opted for the 18-24 month size since my 15-month-old is around 24 pounds. According to the pattern, I'll need 2 balls of recommended yarn, which is about 472yds/200g. So, I'm all set with the two skeins of Red Heart Berry Pooling yarn.

But can you guess how far I got?

Before I spill the beans, I have to admit that I was feeling pretty frustrated because I wanted to make more progress. However, a new medication I started had some unexpected side effects—hello, migraines! You know those speedy side effect disclaimers in medicine commercials? Yep, that was me, thinking it wouldn't happen. Long story short, I ended up in the ER (other conditions were involved too), and after that adventure, crocheting was not on my radar. Rest and sleep were the top priorities.

So, how far did I actually get? After restarting at least four times due to my stitch dissatisfaction, I managed to complete... *drumroll, please*... the collar! Surprisingly, it only took me about 30 to 45 minutes, and I consider myself an average-speed crocheter. So, if you're consistent and don't redo things a gazillion times like me, you could probably finish this pattern (for smaller sizes) in just a few hours. Unless you're a serial restarter like yours truly, LOL!

My plan for tomorrow is to split my crochet time between cleaning and grocery shopping. Here's the deal—I want to complete this project in three days, but I also need to juggle it with life.

I chose this pattern because it seemed quick to complete, but this brings us to lesson one in this series: life happens. Try to give yourself extra time for projects. If you finish early, that's fantastic! If not, be kind to yourself and adjust your expectations. Remember, you're doing this because you enjoy it, so don't stress too much.

Until next time—may your hooks glide smoothly, and may your yarn be endless and tangle-free! 🌟🪡
