Greetings, fellow crochet enthusiasts! Are you ready to embark on a delightful journey through the realm of yarn and whimsical creations? Let's dive right in. Truth be told, I originally planned to start this on a Sunday or a Monday, with the idea of beginning a new project in a new week. But then reality reminded me that if I have the time, why not use it right away? You see, my usual approach involves stumbling upon a pattern and then rushing off to buy more yarn, but today, I'm flipping the script and choosing the yarn first.
Picking the Perfect Yarn
Let's kick things off by selecting the ideal yarn. Normally, when I purchase yarn, it falls into one of three categories:
I had a specific project in mind.
It was on clearance or just too pretty to resist.
It's a restock of a beloved favorite.
Most of the yarn in from the previous postings photo falls under reason #2. For this initial project, I've chosen Red Heart Super Saver in the captivating "Berry Pooling" color that I snagged on clearance at JoAnn's. I adore this color, and after a good wash with fabric softener, the finished project will be incredibly soft. If you love this yarn like I do, you can find it on Amazon through the link below.
Selecting the Pattern
Let me admit, with over 5,000 crochet-related pins on my boards, choosing a pattern can be quite the challenge! With the first day of Fall approaching, I've decided to make a sweater. As I write this section and scroll through my pins, my sweet, cherubic daughter is rifling through my purse for the 17th time today. It seems only fitting to craft a sweater for her. Mj’s off the Hook Designs offers an adorable Crochet Raglan Sweater for Children pattern. Now, according to the pattern, it calls for category 3 yarn, but I'll be using category 4 yarn with the Red Heart yarn. I'll stick with the recommended hook sizes, but because I'm using a different weight of yarn, I'll be sure to consult the gauge guide and adjust my stitch count accordingly. My absolute favorite hooks are Clover and you can also find those over on Amazon through the links.
Project Details
With a 10-year-old, a 15-month-old, and a 3-month-old, my crochet time is squeezed in between naps or during car rides when I'm the lucky passenger. My sweet spot for crocheting, that is when I can enjoy uninterrupted moments, is right after I put my oldest on the school bus when my little ones are still asleep and after bedtime. Typically, I dedicate about 3-4 hours a day to crocheting. This week, we're embarking on a journey a couple of hours away, which means an extra 4 hours of crochet time! After a careful look at the pattern details and factoring in my available time, I estimate that this project will take me about 3 days. I'll be starting tonight and will share my progress along the way. Feel free to join me and share your own progress on Instagram.
Until next time—may your hooks glide smoothly, and may your yarn be endless and tangle-free! 🧶✨
